IDPA Workday 2011

idpa-workday-2011-rokstories The IDPA workday was a huge success thanks to twenty four volunteers. These folks spent a little over 6 hours working on the projects we had lined up. Jim Pierce and Kevin Svetlik bought supplies during the week to make sure we had everything we needed on hand Saturday morning.

The first project for the day was to put a very large power cable and airline on top of the berm separating Bays B & C, then a trench was dug into the corner of the berm to bury the cable as it goes into the Bay C dual runner motors.  A new box was also installed and it will house the control cable(s) for the runners.  Our goal it to reduce the runner set-up time from about an hour to 5 or 10 minutes.  This work had to be done before shooting began at 8:00 am, so we really appreciate the people who arrived at 7:00 am to help us get that part of the project done on time.

. . . 24 people donated 144 man-hours.  Thanks folks!

Power cables and airlines weren't the only projects on Bay C.  Eric along with Russ, Josh and Lee repaired the protective walls by patching holes where he could and replacing the plywood veneer where necessary.  Then they repainted the entire wall.  Now that everything on the wall as been repaired or replaced and painted, PLEASE be careful and not shoot it!!

We were able to empty the IDPA barn, then build several racks and shelves to better organize everything and make room for new props we plan to build over the next few months. All of the steel on the side of the IDPA barn was moved to the back where it will be out of the way and make it possible for us to keep the area mowed. Once the shelving and racks were built, everything was moved back into the barn and organized much better, giving us more storage room.  The work on the IDPA barn required the most labor and we could never have finished that project without the number of volunteers that came to our aid.

The barn is clean and organized -- please help us keep it that way.

Most of the contents of the IDPA office was moved outside so we could do some serious cleaning! Many items that had been accumulated over several years were moved to the IDPA barn and we built a permanent desk for use during the matches. Of course, we also threw away some of the things we just couldn't do without, but hadn't used or even seen for at least five years. Between the cleaning, equipment transfer to the barn, and reconfiguring the IDPA office, we'll be able to handle the sign-in crowds much more efficiently. (It's also going to be easier to clean, if only I could get my wife to volunteer for that task.)

General cleanup was also on the agenda.  The weed that grew into a tree next to the IDPA office as cut and removed.  The entire area between the IDPA office and the IPSC barn was cleaned out.  Numerous old and brittle PVC target stands were thrown away as well as all of the old Coroplast sheets and rotting wood behind the IDPA office.  Overall, the entire pistol area from the plate rack bay to the IPSC trailer looks much better.

The entire IDPA Crew wants to express our appreciation to the men and women who donated a good part of their Saturday to the various projects we tackled.  Had it not been for the great turnout, we would not have accomplished a fraction of the work were able to complete.  Indeed, some projects would never have even begun.  Now that we have more storage room, we can build more props and we can build prototypes and ultimately working copies of entirely new target systems the PSC Skunkworks have been dreaming up for months.   Thanks folks!

The folks that made the Special IDPA Workday a success are listed below.  If we missed getting someone to sign the volunteer list, then we sincerely apologize for leaving you off the list.
