Changes Everywhere!

plate-rack-crew-rokstoriesThe last eighteen months have seen a lot of changes at PSC Shooting Club, some more visible than others, but all representing major improvements for our Members.

New Website

Obviously, the website is one of the changes and we hope you like the new format.  The new site has greatly enhanced capabilities and these will become very useful in the coming weeks and months. The new format will provide more information about activities and programs at PSC than has ever been available online.  The online registration facility for matches and events has been upgraded and is available to all PSC Match Directors and event coordinators. New pages are being developed to showcase programs like the PSC Juniors Program and the PSC Ladies Program.  Let's face it, this is the digital age and an ever-growing majority of people get their information primarily or exclusively from the Internet. Going forward we will make better use of this communication tool.

PSC has long been one of the premiere shooting facilities in Texas and we are always looking for ways provide more opportunities for our Members to enjoy the shooting sports and/or to improve self-defense skills.  Additional range improvements have been approved by  the Board and work will begin shortly. New shooting programs and activities are also being planned and long-standing programs are being revamped.

While roads, berms, buildings and equipment turn raw land into a range, people turn a range into a club.

Let's take a look at the improvements that have been made to the facility just within the last year.  The most obvious changes are the electric gate, recently upgraded to recognize "smart cards," and the new paved road.  The original plate rack bay has been revamped and improved and a second set of plate racks have been installed in Bay F.  There were also a series of lesser known improvements made such as the bulkhead experiment to help prevent berm erosion and reduce maintenance costs.  This experiment has been a success and we will be installing them on all berms in the coming months.  Several other projects are either in the planning or development stage and every one of them will offer additional shooting opportunities to our Members and their guests.

Range v. Club

Facilities are not the only things that make a club. While roads, berms, buildings and equipment turn raw land into a range, people turn a range into a club. As noted, more shooting programs are coming to PSC. The PSC Juniors Program has been a great success and over the years and thousands of young people have been introduced to the shooting sports through this Program. We have some new ideas that we will incorporate into the Program and we think our Juniors will love it!

The PSC Ladies Program is being revamped and expanded to offer more shooting opportunities to better fit the skill level and desires of the many women who participate in this Program. Additional education opportunities are also going to be offered to the ladies, some of which are directly related to personal safety.

steel-challenge3The PSC version of “skunk works” is brainstorming and coming up with innovative and exciting new equipment designs to add to our Members shooting experience at the Club. These will be unveiled over the next 12 to 24 months and people are going to be amazed at our ability to keep raising the bar.

Just as people turn a range into a club, PSC isn’t solely about shooting. While shooting is PSC’s primary purpose and focal point, the Club is also about meeting people with common interests and developing new friends. The Club also provides the opportunity to introduce non-shooting family and friends to the fun and utility of gun ownership and shooting. Nowhere is this more evident that at the PSC shotgun range. The “shotgunners” as we call them, certainly enjoy shooting, but they also enjoy each other’s company. In uspsa-girlthe coming months, you will see a concerted effort to further the “club” element at PSC and expand it to all shooting disciplines. Years ago as I was leaving home I would tell my wife, “Bye Honey, I’m going to the range.” Now, I tell her “Honey, let's go to the Club.” Soon, you will too.
